Ollie Thomas paced the waiting room of the surgery unit at Mount Sinai Hospital as he waited for word from the doctors working on Carrie Carlyle. That crazy man Potemkin had used her as his own personal practice bag and nearly killed her, but the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. showed up in time to make a last minute save.
((Might as well get some more of that rotten coffee)) he thought as he walked toward the elevators and headed down to the main lobby. ((Maybe tea would be better)) he mused as he stepped from the elevator to see a red haired woman being wheeled onto the elevator that had taken Carrie to surgery. The gurney was followed by Tony Stark. ((Whoa, that was Pepper Potts))
Ollie stepped back toward the wall as he watched the doors of the surgery suite elevator close. ((Hope she's going to be OK))

"You are not listening to me," Tony barked at the EMTs and nurses taking Pepper to the surgery suite. "If she has shrapnel in her chest, I will give you something to help her. Do not screw around. Come get me!"
An orderly motioned for Stark to step back as the elevator doors closed, and Tony turned to see some guy getting coffee from one of the vending machines near the gift shop. The guy looked vaguely familiar, and even the possibility of someone to talk to was better than no one to talk to right now.
"I need to buy this place a better cafe, or build one," Tony said as he finally leaned against the wall. He had left his armor, much to his consternation, in a room near the ER with two burly Stark guards watching over it. "I'm freaking out if you hadn't noticed."
"We both are," the other man said as he tried to force a smile. "Tony Stark, right? Oliver Thomas. I teach at CUNY. A friend of mine is in surgery right now. Carrie Carlyle. I think she did a piece on you a few years ago..."
"Don't tell me she was in that mess where Cap was?" Tony asked as Ollie nodded in reply. "Magic..."
"You are starting to sound like Emma Frost, and I really don't think that's what you want," Ollie noted as he gave Stark an odd look. "Magic didn't cause this problem any more than all mutants cause others. There were some bad guys who took advantage of a crazy situation. Just worry about your friend right now, and I'll worry about mine. And drink this stuff that passes for coffee."

Rushing through the doors, Peter Parker was frantically searching for his friend. Knowing that he could have helped, could have done something to prevent what had happened, was driving him crazy. As he darted through the reception area and into the ER he almost ran straight through two large men in suits. ((Tony must be close, Stark Industries doesn't leave guards around for no reason.))
Dashing through the lobby only half aware of his surroundings he almost ran right into Tony and the other man.
Breathless, he panted "Tony..." *Pant* *Pant* "What happened? Is she okay?"

"Finally, someone who might understand what I am talking about, no offense there Ollie," Tony said as he looked at Peter and pulled him aside. "Anybody who starts comparing me to Emma Frost is not putting me in a very good place. Peter, to be honest, I'm ready to get every doctor on the Eastern seaboard here if these folks don't let me help. Pepper got hit by shrapnel and debris when that stupid robot Doom brought to the party exploded. I think it hit her heart. And...that hit my heart..."
Tony was ready to punch the wall, but he was certain it would win him no brownie points with the medical honchos racing around the hallways.
"As for help, right now I need someone to keep me from renovating the walls here. I might need your help later if the doctors need an arc reactor for her chest. I don't want to screw this up."
Ollie Thomas walked back past the two men, and Stark grabbed his shoulder. "Wait up. Oliver Thomas, also waiting for a friend in the surgical unit. Peter Parker. Ollie here hangs with the X-Men, Peter, and he finds really crappy coffee."

With a half-hearted sigh Pete said "An arc reactor? That's a short term fix right? You worked out the kinks with the palladium poisoning?" Pausing for a moment, he continued his response "The less said about this whole magic thing the better... I mean it's magic, you know? Never believe it's not so..." he trailed off as he tried to lighten the mood.
Peter placed his hand on Tony's shoulder "Hey, you won't screw this up. We won't screw this up."
Turning to see the guy Tony was introducing Peter offered a friendly greeting. "Well, I've had my fair share of bad coffee, Jonah always bought the cheap stuff in bulk."

"His friend works at the Bugle..." Tony started to say and then stopped. "Worked there. She's freelance now. Carrie Carlyle."
"Yeah, she got a bit ticked at that Jonah guy and walked," Ollie said as he smiled at Peter. "And did I hear you say arc reactor?"
"I should have just said magnet. I've been talking to Danny Rand about a new design he's been developing...I'm just freaked out by all this," Tony said as he saw the second gurney being wheeled in with Adaryn MacFeorais on it. Niamh and Jackson were running behind it, but the orderlies made them stay outside the ER doors. "And that. Give me a sec...Pint-Size, how is your Mom doing?" he asked Niamh as Jackson glared at him.
"She's gonna be OK, Dad, but Stephen Strange wouldn't let me heal her," Stark's alternate universe daughter said as she kicked the wall. "No one lets me do anything!"
Tony looked at Peter and seemed to be even more lost by this latest development. Jackson came over and hugged his sister while Tony backed away a bit. "Peter, if Pepper needs this chest gear, I may need you to help me sell her on it. She hasn't been too happy with me lately, and anything I suggest might be the very wrong thing. You have this ability to get to the heart of the matter, no pun intended, and make things work."

Angelica Jones had been visiting her oncologist for her annual check-up, and once again, thank heaven, all was well. Her friends had pulled a lot of strings to keep her in this world, and while getting cancer again might have been unlikely, her doctors did not fully understand the lengths that had been gone to to save her life. They were not going to take her recovery for granted.
As she prepared to exit the building, Firestar had to stay out of the way as gurneys were rolled through the hallway and toward the ER and surgical suites. Then she heard two familiar voices in the hallway near the cafe where they had that horrible coffee and the stale donuts.
"Tony? Peter? What are you doing here?"she asked as she walked up to both men and gave them a hug. "And Dr. Thomas?" Angelica had taken a couple of courses at CUNY and had run into Ollie Thomas, almost literally, in the school's cafeteria. "Why don't we go sit in the lounge? The three of you being here can't be a coincidence."
Angelica looked over and saw Niamh and Jackson and motioned for them to follow the adults to the lounge area. "I can get you guys something from the Starbucks down the block if you want. Just say the word."
