When her powers first activated in the fallout of M-Day, Marina subconsciously created a telepathic funnel, from which her own mind absorbed the thoughts, memories, and essence of about 500 people before the mental prints were forcibly placed back into the minds of the individuals, resulting in temporary memory loss and significant confusion in those caught within her "psionic wormhole" as S.H.I.E.L.D. put it. As a result of her power activation, Marina seems to have developed another personality that goes by "Althena", with whom she constantly bickers and argues with. The Powers Of The Goddess: The more serious spikes of Marina's powers comes when she has adopted the persona of a woman named Althena and claims to be some sort of Goddess, though not one of any Earthbound religion, forgotten or otherwise. If one where to take "Althena" at her word, it would mean that she is capable of mystical or cosmic manipulative abilities of a wide variety, though most of these assumed abilities have not been demonstrated. Though the abilities she has shown to be capable of can be achieved while as Marina, it appears the full scope of her powers emerge via the Althena persona. Telepathy: The nature of Althena's telepathy is unproven, though she has shown that she is capable of communicating mentally and even reading minds with relative ease, which is disturbing to those who view Althena as a fractured personality instead of the Goddess she claims to be. Pheromone Manipulation: Althena claims to be capable of manipulating one's pheromones. Whether it's true or not is unknown, but she is known to be quite flirty, and people are immediately receptive to her, though there's a possibility that it's true. Psychokinesis: The most commonly displayed ability of Althena's is Psychokinesis. As Marina, this was often displayed through objects being telekinetically hoisted into the air, though Althena, even through the dampening of her X-Gene (which is believed to be the true source of her power), she has created spheres of energy and even molded her floor tiles into action figures by manipulating their molecules. Though by admission, it took Althena two weeks of focusing on the floor tiles to pull off this feat, it's a clear indication of how powerful she might actually be if she were unhinged. Teleportation: This ability has yet to be demonstrated, but Althena claims to be able to teleport across vast distances through self-dispersion or by way of portals. It's unknown if this is actually true. Strength Level: Marina possesses the normal human strength of a woman of her age, height, and build who engages in moderate regular exercise. The Althena persona's strength level has not been completely documented, but it's assumed that it too possesses the strength of a normal human woman. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Marina is an expert marksman and moderately proficient in Krav Maga due to her time in the NYPD. She's also a remarkable lawyer. Althena's skills are unknown, and are likely made up of the various skills absorbed from the victims of the activation of Marina's X-Gene. WEAPONS AND EQUIPMENT: None WEAKNESSES: Marina is a human and is vulnerable to all human weaknesses. She is deemed mentally unstable and is often seen arguing with herself, be it in her normal state or her Althena persona. HISTORY There's really nothing spectacular about Marina's life, and was pretty typical of an American. She grew up in a middle class household in the suburbs of New York City. Her mother was a high school math teacher and her father was a ranking officer in S.H.I.E.L.D. His position wasn't anything of the top secret nature, so the family had a pretty normal life. Marina went through her school years making above average marks and eventually was granted a scholarship for college. Instead of immediately capitalizing on her opportunity to go to college, Marina went for law enforcement instead, opting to follow somewhat in her fathers footsteps. Of course, he prepped her for it by giving her some pointers in hand to hand combat and marksmanship, but Marina lived and died by her own skills. She could've gone far in the field, but instead of pursuing it as a career, Marina gracefully retired from the police force after four solid years and went to college, where she studied criminal law. Even with her first year out of school, Marina's career quickly took off, her time as a police officer rightfully giving her a better perspective when it came to the matters that involved her field of expertise. Marina met a number of colorful people over the years, from superhero to supervillain alike, most notably her idol, She-Hulk. Once again, Marina seemed to have a promising career ahead of her, then M-Day struck. When Scarlet Witch warped reality and depowered the vast majority of the mutants in the world, Marina was in court, prosecuting a criminal mutant for the murder of three individuals and two police officers. The backlash of depowering wave rendered the criminal mutant unconscious, and somehow activated the latent X-Gene within Marina. Instead of fainting, her mind began to absorb the minds of approximately five hundred individuals, processing them, and then throwing them back out, as described by the few S.H.I.E.L.D. telepaths fortunate enough to retain their abilities. In that instant, Marina was seemingly driven insane by the multitude of personalities inside of her head, and that's when the persona of "Althena Dalmasca" was born, or so says S.H.I.E.L.D. Marina was locked up not only for her safety, but for the safety of the public, as a mentally unstable telepath running the streets wasn't all that great for society. However, Marina constantly protests that she is perfectly sane, and is simply possessed by a metaphysical entity known as Althena. Psi-scans via S.H.I.E.L.D. and even Dr. Strange have yet to prove this statement, all signs point to her being a mutant with an unstable mind, despite Marina's proclamations. And since she's constantly talking and arguing with herself, it's highly unlikely anyone would believe her statements to be true. The more flamboyant, outspoken, and flirtatious aspect, known as Althena, also seems to make similar claims, but tends to find humor and enjoyment out of her situation in comparison to Marina, who wants nothing but freedom from her possession and prison. In fact, through the Althena aspect, Marina has been perfectly capable of escaping her imprisonment on The Raft on several occasions, though Althena has done nothing but seduce the prison guards, men and women alike, to join her in her prison cell. She has, however, gone missing from her cell. And through there were signs of a forced entry, it's been declared that she is an escapee and on the run from authorities.
