She-Hulk shook her head as she, Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel piled out of the Avengers ground transport In front of the Fulton Place apartment sin the Bronx. It was not exactly the Ritz, and Jennifer wondered what had led Pietro Maximoff to pick this place to live. Then she remembered how much everyone wanted to take a piece out of his hide after the events of M-Day.

"OK, so...if he's seen us, Pietro could be halfway to Hoboken by now. Carol, you going topside?" Jennifer asked as she pointed upward. "Or you going to web your way to the stars, Spidey? If I start beating on doors, then he will bolt for sure. I'm not exactly subtle."

She-Hulk wrinkled her nose as a rat ran by and made a beeline for a Dumpster near a Chinese restaurant. "Lovely. Really nice place he picked here."

[Spider-Man]

Peter stretched and cracked his neck, looking the apartment complex up and down he said "Wouldn't it be alot quieter for Carol to just float on up there and check the windows? Carol goes topside, I take the stairs..." Pete looked at Jennifer "And you stay down here, just in case he bolts?"

Slinging a web skywards he began to swing toward a lamp post, sitting on top of it like only spider-man can.

[Captain Marvel]

"Of course that's what we'll do," Carol said with a slight smirk as she started to move quietly to the top of the apartment building. She was happy it was nighttime, or she could have attracted a lot more attention. People who were not in this line of work always thought it was so easy to just fly around or shoot a line and swing around like Spider-Man did. It was far from easy.

Ms. Marvel did  a slow fly-over of the building, and then she moved back toward Spider-Man and looked down toward She-Hulk. "If he's in there, he is hiding under his bed, and we all know Pietro isn't one to hide. Most of the apartments had lights on. I'll check the ones that didn't again to be sure. Happy hunting inside, Spider-Man," she added as she flew back around the building. 

 

[Spider-Man]

Pete sighed heavily, he was kind of hoping Carol would find Pietro through a window. Slinging a web to a high building, he swung to the top of the fire escape. His immediate thought was that Pietro would want enough time to notice anyone looking for him so he'd likely take an apartment on a higher floor.

Opening the fire escape's door, Pete walked inside as quietly as possible. He searched through the entire floor, looking for anything abnormal, listening for anything that could tip off Pietro's presence.

Moving back to the fire escape, Pete crawled up the wall and onto the roof. Looking down at She-Hulk he shrugged and shook his head. No signs of him in the most logical place.

She-Hulk sighed as she looked up at first Spider-Man and then at Ms. Marvel. Magnetrixx  had gotten the information from SHIELD, and those folks didn't make a whole lot of mistakes. "Great," she said to herself as she looked at the front door of the building. Maybe Pietro had some way to monitor SHIELD communications? Maybe he was out getting milk at the local bodega?

Maybe this was just a huge waste of time.

"If we had something to get him outside, it might help," she said aloud as she looked back up to her compatriots. "Can't just shake the building, now can I?"

She-Hulk tapped her communicator and spoke to Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man. "Any ideas on how to flush him out?"


 

[Quicksilver]

Pietro had seen the web-slinger crawl up the wall on the opposite side of the the window.  Of course, Pietro quickly pulled the curtains closed tightly and peeked out down below to see She-Hulk wandering on the street below.

With a sigh and a scowl on his face he returned to his chair and sat down.  He had known this time was coming.  It was only time before the Avengers, X-Men, and god knew who else would seek him out.  He wished they would just leave him in peace.  Even the revelation of his newly discovered daughter and former lover would not sway him to return to a team.  Or perhaps they just wanted to start another fight?

Pietro closed his eyes a moment before he got up off his chair and wandered back to the window.  He pulled open the curtains and pushed the window open, sticking his head out and calling to the others.  "Let's get this over with!" he said narrowing his eyes at Spiderman.

[Captain Marvel]

"Guys, I'll set me comm badge so you can find us inside," Ms. Marvel said over the commline to Spider-Man and She-Hulk as she flew up to Quicksilver's window.  "Sorry to take the scenic route in, Pietro, but this is not going to be some huge dust up. I promise. We need your help."

There was a knock at the door before Carol could finish what she was saying to Pietro. "Jen can explain everything if you're willing to listen, Pietro, but we need your help to find Wanda. The whole world is depending on it. Now, could you please let Jen and Spider-Man in?"

Wiccan and Speed had heard the cross-chatter on the Avengers' commlines, so they followed it to where Ms. Marvel. Spider-Man and She-Hulk had gone. Billy touched down to find Tommy sitting on the steps of the apartment building, tapping his foot until tiny bits of rock and dust started to scatter around him.

"Cut it out. I'm sorry I'm too slow for you," Billy said to Tommy as they followed the signal sent out by Ms. Marvel. "I just hope Uncle Pietro doesn't bounce us out on our butts."

"Uncle Pete? Doubt it," Tommy replied as he and Billy took the elevator ride up to Quicksilver's apartment. They walked up behind She-Hulk and looked to see if Spider-Man had made it to their location yet. "She-Hulk, please don't freak out..."

"Relax, guys," Jennifer replied as she gave a goofy look to the twins. "We know you want to find Wanda as much as we do."

 

[Quicksilver]

There was an unlocking sound from the other side of Pietro's door and then the door popped open slightly.  Inside the apartment was completely dark except for one small light in the kitchen, which illuminated the place just enough to see the clutter.  Old food containers, newspapers and magazines piled everywhere, a few bottles here and there.  The place was a mess.

Pietro sat in his chair, looking completely disheveled.  His hair was a mess and his face stubbly.  He looked tired and exhausted as he sat there staring at the Avengers.  "I suppose this isn't a friendly visit?  You must want something," he said reaching for the glass of whatever alcohol he was drinking.

"I don't know where Wanda is.  I wouldn't tell you if I did."

[Vision]

Vision was tracking the party from a distance, just in case Pietro decided to make a run for it. He surveyed the buildings, alleys and streets for every possible escape route. He place orbed devices on choke points of the routes, to make sure they would not lose a man they could not see if he wanted to escape. {run net program.. 0100 Alpha 6} Vision typed away on a holo keyboard as he connected the devices to the skynet he created around the block.

Picking up the teams movement, he flew hovering through the air toward the building. He opened the coms to the team after scanning the building. "After running a Diagnostic screen, building does not seem safe to enter. Possible infection from contamination, plagued rats and drug paraphernalia is at 80%. Structure damage is nearly at 50%, I am surprised this building is not condemned. I should report this to the authorities."

Vision phased through the outside wall to enter the building. He scanned support beams then started hover up floor by floor. "Heart rates are normal, actually slower than normal which indicates a feeling of depression or exasperation." Vision continued to process everything he was seeing from the data returns.

Jennifer knew Carol was inside with Billy and Tommy, and by now she knew they had found Pietro, but how things were actually going was another story. She-Hulk was pleased when she heard Vision's voice over the commline. He was right about the building and the neighborhood in general, and it made Jen think about what had led to all this. Why was Pietro here? If she could be forgiven for what she had done, then why not their fellow Avengers? This whole scenario left her puzzled.

"You may want to report this to the authorities, Vision," She-Hulk replied over the commline. "There are children here, and I'd hate to think about anyone being injured by some falling debris or structural buckling. And maybe we can see if there is a clinic nearby so these people don't get sick. Couldn't hurt."

A second feed came over the commline as Spider-Man entered the apartment, and Jen could hear everyone talking inside. "Ms. Marvel, Vision and I will keep watch outside."

Another rat ran past Jen, and she looked down at it and wished it would go away a bit faster. "Cockroaches and rats and pigeons. Unwanted symbols of the great City of New York for sure! I guess we'll just bide our time, Vision, until the others make their way back outside."
