HISTORY Cable is the child of mutants Scott Summers and Madelyn Pryor, who was in fact a clone of Jean Grey. Born in Anchorage Alaska, the procreation between two such powerful mutants resulted in a mutant with great potential for power himself, even waking Apocalypse from his slumber. His Alternate-Universe half-sister Rachel then made a psionic bond with the baby, promising to always be there for him and to be his protector. Not long after, it was revealed that his mother's genetic predecessor was discovered to be alive, and Scott immediately abandoned the two to be reunited with Jean and the other X-men. Hearing of this development, Mr. Sinister immediately had his Marauders attempt to kill Madelyn and kidnap Nathan. While Madelyn survived the attack and was put under the X-men's care, the child was successfully taken into Sinister's possession, at which point the man began performing experiments on the young child. Madelyn would slowly descend into madness upon the discovery of her husband's motivation for abandoning the two, slowly unlocking her powers and contacting a pair of demons from the plane of existence known as limbo. She would eventually make a deal with the creatures, the payment on her part being that she give up her son to the beings, in exchange for opening a link between the two dimensions. Thus, during a rescue attempt by the X-men to recover not only Nathan, but a number of other children that Essex had managed to kidnap as well, a number of demons escaped with some of the children, including the infant Summers. The demons wished to use Nathan, and the other children, as components to open a portal to their world, but were trumped by the New Mutants and Scott Summers. Of course, upon being returned to his mother at an orphanage, the unstable woman attempted to sacrifice the children, in another effort to open the inter-dimensional link one more time. Upon her attempt to do so, the demons she had allied herself with were defeated, and the woman made a last-ditch effort to not only destroy her son and enemy, Jean Grey, but herself as well. After the defeat of N'Astirh, the Goblin Queen locked herself, Nathan, and Jean inside a psionic barrier. Madelyne killed herself and locked Jean into a mental bond, hoping to take her down with her. Jean re-integrated the portions of her life-force that had gone from the Phoenix Force to Madelyne. In doing so, Jean also received Madelyne's memories, including those of raising young Nathan. Nathan was taken to X-Factor's sentient Celestial Ship, where he was cared for by Scott and Jean. Scott decided to take Nathan with him on missions. Nathan's other mutant powers began to manifest, as he could form a protective telekinetic force bubble around himself. Meanwhile, the mysterious Cable took command of the New Mutants. Unknown to Scott and Jean, Cable was actually an adult Nathan returned from the far future, paradoxically living in this time as both an infant and an adult. The Riders of the Storm kidnapped Nathan and took him to Apocalypse's base on the Blue Area of the Moon. Before Nathan could be rescued by X-Factor, Apocalypse infected him with a Techno-Organic Virus that was rapidly spreading liquid metal and organic steel through his body and, if not stopped, would kill him. Ship created a protective electro-magnetic field and merged with Nathan's electrical parts to keep him alive. A visitor from 2,000 years in the future, Sister Askani of the Clan Askani, appeared to Cyclops. She had sacrificed her physical body to become energy and claimed that Nathan would become a savior in her time. Sister Askani promised the Clan would cure him of the virus in the future, however she would be unable to make another time-jump, trapping Nathan in the future. Cyclops chose to save his son's life and gave him up, believing that he would never see him again. During the following years, Nathan was raised by alternate-versions of his parents, and had many adventurers following, most times trying to end the future-looming threat of the mutant En Sabah Nur, more commonly referred to as Apocalypse. Through these times, Nathan manipulated his virus through telekinesis and telepathy to control what portions of his body would be affected, and managed to even have it go into remission on some occasions. He joined, and even started, a number of mutant teams, before eventually dying, to the apparent of everyone present at the time. However, sometime later, Cable would resurface with the first mutant to be born after M-Day in his care. This brought him into conflict with Bishop, The X-Men, and a number of other mutants who all wanted the child for their own reasons. Eventually, after evading pursuit for sometime, Cable convinced his father, Cyclops, to allow the man to take this child into the future with him. After receiving the man's consent, Nathan travelled through time, running from Bishop as he raised the girl, even naming her Hope, after a resident who Summers had married that had ultimately died defending the girl. There were many difficulties, with even at one point the two touching down at the same point but two years apart. But they continue to evade Bishop's attacks, carving their way through time, as a family.
