HISTORY Born in Forrest Hills, New York, Peter Parker had a happy family with his parents Richard and Mary Parker. While overseas on an intelligence mission, Red Skull discovered that his parents were spying on him, and the man had the couple killed. Peter, staying with his Uncle and Aunt at the time, was safe from the attack and any further retribution from the Nazi. Living with Ben, and May, as his surrogate parents, Parker went to high school at Midtown High. The couple often encouraged their nephew to embrace his keen nature, and become an intellectual, with the hope that using his mind he would some day be both successful and happy. An exceptionally bright young man, Parker often achieved high academic honors. Naturally the young scholar was branded as an easy target for the local bully Flash Thompson, but this was simply a hardship that he had to endure in his early life, and remained a social outcast throughout this time. During an exhibition of a particle accelerator, Parker was bitten by a spider that had been irradiated earlier by the machine. While causing some pain towards the young man, there was nothing that particularly alarmed him as a result of the incident, and he returned home to rest for school the next morning. Over the course of the evening, Peter experienced a much more intense pain than he had the day before. Tossing and turning throughout the resting period, the young man finally awoke fully the next morning to a great shock. Somehow, his body had manifested great strength and agility, along with the ability to climb surfaces that were perpendicular to the ground with only his hands and feet. These traits which were reminiscent of a spider immediately caused it to dawn upon Peter that the spider's bite had somehow brought about this change in the teenager. Soon after, the young man sought to find a way to monetize these new abilities which he had gained, deciding to answer an ad that would offer a cash reward if he could last 3 minutes with a professional wrestler. Wearing a mask so that he couldn't be identified by his schoolmates or family, Peter made short work of his opponent and secured the attention of a producer. The TV producer convinced the masked hero to take his act out on show. Designing a much fuller suit, and web-shooters, Parker began going through the talk-show circuit as The Amazing Spiderman. Following an appearance, a thief shouldered past Spiderman as he was fleeing from the police. Parker, insisting that it wasn't his responsibility to handle small crooks, refused to do anything about the man when the opportunity presented itself. Not thinking any more of this, Spiderman continued to become a larger and larger sensation with the general public, gaining the admiration of even his classmates, who were totally ignorant to the true identity of this masked man. One night, though, a tragedy would occur and change his entire outlook concerning his responsibility to others that came with his powers. While returning from another performance on a talk-show, Peter was met with the sight of police out of his house investigating a scene. Sprinting into his home, Peter, was informed that earlier in the evening his Uncle Ben had been shot by a burglar while attempting to defend his home and wife from the potentially dangerous man. Hearing from one of the officers that the man had been holed up into a warehouse nearby, Parker flew into a rage, changing into his costume, and quickly made his way to the reported destination. Easily beating the criminal into a pulp, he discovered that the shooter was the very man that he had let go free only a few weeks before. Now filled with remorse, Spiderman left the beaten man behind for the police to arrest the killer. Realizing that the mantra that Uncle Ben had been telling him for years "with great power, comes great responsibility" suddenly held much more gravity in it than in previous years. Deciding to live a double life and become a hero, Peter was met immediately with no small amount of financial difficulty due to the death of his Uncle Ben, who had been the previous bread winner in the house. With Aunt May too weak to work, the two relied on government financial support for money while Peter looked for work. Briefly able to live off of the money left over from the talk-shows, Peter was having a very difficult time trying to support himself and his Aunt May with money that was already dwindling. Things were made worse by the fact that The Daily Bugle and NOW magazine had launched a smearing campaign against him. After performing a couple of notable heroic acts, including rescuing John Jameson from a crash involving a space-capsule, Parker gained some notoriety. Attempting to join The Fantastic Four after this, he was turned away on the basis of them being both non-profit and a family. After another period of time without any income, and the two on their last leg financially, Parker managed to find work when The Daily Bugle began offering money to freelance photographers if they could capture pictures of Spiderman. With the understanding that Peter got paid and the publicist didn't inquire HOW he got the pictures, Peter had a consistent job for the newspaper. During his continuing times in High School, Spiderman remained an active superhero within New York City. Usually handling the common, everyday, crime like that which had killed his Uncle Ben. Naturally, as a hero he soon began fighting supervillains fairly regularly as well. These escapades often very nearly outed the young teenager as Spiderman, but through creativity and good acting he was able to evade his secret being discovered. Thanks to his brilliance and hard work during school, Peter, was able to obtain a science scholarship to Empire State University and attend college full time in order to pursue a career as a scientist. In the ensuing years, Peter's scholastic pursuits were riddled with both tardiness and outright absence, the frequency of these eventually resulted in the young man having to outright drop out from college. Of course, in the following time he continued to work on both his heroic and personal lives. Eventually Aunt May convinced him to try again, and Parker managed to stay in school long enough to obtain a Master's Degree in Science. Not long after, Parker became engaged and married to Mary Jane Watson. Of course, the first time they went through this, she was nothing more than a clone who had been designed to believe that she was Mary Jane. This later ended in a long and complex series of events which resulted in Peter's clone "brother" Ben Reilly becoming the hero Scarlet Spider. Soon enough Peter married for the second time, this time to the real MJ, and the couple were finally able to be together. Quickly taking a job at his hold high school as a teacher, Peter was able to create the "normal" civilian life that had been striven for after all this time. Eventually the incident that brought about the "Superhuman Registration Act" occurred, and Spiderman surprised everybody. Not only by coming out in support of the bill, but even revealing his secret identity to the world, admitting that he had been Spiderman since he was in high school. Shocking both the nation and the superhuman community, Peter soon found himself not fully supporting Iron Man's methods to apprehend any who didn't side with the government, and after a frustrating battle ended up changing sides to the resistance with Captain America. The entire ordeal soon had ended, and Parker hoped that his life would be able to return to normal. This was not meant to be, though, as Aunt May was the victim of an assassination attempt. While the elderly woman survived, Peter flew into a rage, and dawned a black suit that had been made for him years before to resemble the symbiote suit that later became Venom. Finding and arresting the man, once again feeling the strong urge to kill he had so many years prior, Spiderman once again left the criminal to the authorities. Now joining an Avengers team as Spiderman, Peter still fights crime, but this time with his purpose renewed to an entirely new level.
